// On a separate note //

Curiosity and genuine love for making sounds is what drives me to keep learning as much as I possibly can.

I am that guy on the right

Hi! I'm Nuno Bento, Foley artist and sound designer from Lisbon, Portugal

I've been working since 2011, I had just finished a highschool degree on music production in Lisbon and went into an internship at a local music recording studio that summer.

Working in the studio in those days was fun but harsh, the place doubled as a live sound company and I had to learn how to help both the house producer and the team going out for these live gigs. This cleared all doubts in my mind that music really wasn't the industry for me. At least not as a producer.

My dream back then was to become a philosophy teacher, studying ethics, epistemology and political science.

That didn't happen, I had to start working as soon as possible so I figured I should follow what makes music most interesting to me and work on getting a small sound design course for Audiovisuals and "new media"

I thought this would probably get me a job sooner rather than later and, well, it did!

By January 2012 I had started working as an ADR/dubbing engineer in the studio where everything Disney was dubbed, that sounded pretty fun to me - I wanted more creative work but I was able to pay for the course and all the while, looking for better opportunities

In 2014 I was able to secure a job at Loudness Films as a resident Foley artist, dialog editor, sound designer, mixer and sometimes composer! It was great fun but I ended up moving on in 2019 to work with 119 Marvila Studios, where I had more control over what I was working on and how I worked, building a team of amazing people to teach and grow with.

 I went freelance on October of 2022 to pursue opportunities in games, learning to work freelance and apply for sound design positions in studios, any studio, anywhere in the world. I'm looking for a team I can learn from and grow with and, possibly, share all that I've learned performing foley and my own approach to sound design, I know I have a lot to learn about integration but asset creation comes easy for me, I'm highly malleable meaning that I can easily adapt to different themes, worlds and stories.

Back in 2012 I was already trying to pitch my own design documents with mock ups of UI, exploration, combat systems, I was learning GameMaker, fiddling around with fmod and trying to make my tools for sound design around interactivity and randomization. Using tools like Plogue's Bidule, AudioMulch, VCV Rack, modulation of plugins on Ableton... Even tried to design car engines on Wwise so I wouldn't have to cut them into the film!

Essentially even though I was working in linear media I was already trying to have my own sound design having a performance element to it.

In 2020 my brother and I released a game on Steam called Building 847, he did all the work on unity while I was in charge of music and sound design. It didn't sell more than 200 copies but we got pizza and celebrated the release!

Right now we're both working on the next release, CORPUS EDAX an immersive melee-based RPG inspired by immersive sims like Deus Ex (more-so akin to the Square Enix ones) and Dishonored, with sprinkles of Fallout's humor and dialog choices.

I do love talking about sound, it's my whole life - I'm up for saying hi and talking about whatever on my social media accounts
